Getting to and Around Larnaca

Plan your journey to Larnaca and discover the easiest ways to explore the city, its beautiful coastline and the rest of Cyprus.

Larnaca is located on the southeastern coast of Cyprus and is one of the island’s main gateways for international visitors.

The city is accessible by air and road, with public transportation, taxis and rental cars providing convenient ways to explore the surrounding region.

Whether you are planning a relaxing beach holiday or a longer journey around Cyprus, choosing the right transportation will make your visit more enjoyable.

Flying to Larnaca

Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is the main international airport in Cyprus.

It offers connections to numerous European and Middle Eastern destinations, making Larnaca a convenient starting point for an island holiday.

The airport is located approximately five kilometres from the city centre.

Taxis and public buses connect the airport with central Larnaca, while rental cars are available for visitors planning to explore the island independently.

Travelling by Car

Larnaca is connected to other major Cypriot cities by a network of modern highways.

Driving to Nicosia generally takes around 40–50 minutes, while Limassol is approximately one hour away.

Ayia Napa and the popular beaches of the eastern coast are also within easy reach.

Remember that traffic drives on the left in Cyprus.

Getting Around Larnaca

Central Larnaca is relatively easy to explore on foot.

The Finikoudes promenade, historic centre, marina and several popular attractions are located within a manageable walking distance of one another.

Local buses provide connections between the city centre, surrounding neighbourhoods and nearby coastal areas.

Taxis are another option, particularly for airport transfers and shorter journeys.

Exploring Cyprus by Bus

Intercity bus services connect Larnaca with destinations such as Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos and Ayia Napa.

These services can be useful if you want to explore the island without renting a car.

Check the current timetables before travelling, particularly on weekends and public holidays.

Do You Need a Car?

If you are mainly staying near Finikoudes Beach, you can enjoy much of central Larnaca without a car.

However, I recommend renting one if you want to explore traditional villages, remote beaches and the Troodos Mountains.

For a first visit, allow at least two or three days in Larnaca, with additional time if you want to discover more of Cyprus.
