Larnaca’s long relationship with the Mediterranean makes seafood an obvious part of a visit. You will find fish restaurants and tavernas around the city and coast, from simple places to restaurants built around long, leisurely meals.
Keep it simple
Grilled fish with lemon, olive oil and a fresh salad is hard to improve on. Calamari, octopus and other seafood also appear frequently on menus.
What is available can vary, so ask what is fresh or local that day if that is important to you.
Try a seafood meze
If choosing one dish feels impossible, seafood meze solves the problem by bringing a sequence of smaller plates to the table. It is particularly good for a group because everyone gets to taste several things.
Check what is included and the pricing before ordering, as each restaurant handles meze differently.
Do not judge only by the view
A table overlooking the Mediterranean is difficult to resist, and sometimes the setting really does make the meal. But explore away from the most obvious waterfront strip too.
Larnaca is compact enough that walking a few streets can completely change the atmosphere.
Make dinner part of the evening
Seafood is not something I would rush here. Order slowly, share dishes and leave time for a walk afterwards.
Mackenzie Beach and the wider Larnaca waterfront are natural areas for combining the sea with dinner, but the best approach is simply to follow your appetite.
A warm Cypriot evening, grilled fish and a table of shared dishes is about as Mediterranean as Larnaca gets.
