Finikoudes Beach and Promenade – The Heart of Larnaca

Finikoudes is the place where many visitors first discover the relaxed character of Larnaca. The broad seafront promenade runs beside a sandy beach in the centre of the city, making it easy to combine swimming, sightseeing, lunch and an evening stroll without needing a car. Its name comes from the palm trees lining the waterfront, and today the promenade is one of Larnaca’s most recognisable meeting places.

The beach itself is convenient rather than remote. The water is generally shallow close to shore, which makes Finikoudes popular with families and anyone who prefers an easy swim. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available during the main season, while cafés, restaurants and shops are only a few steps away. This is not the beach to choose if you are searching for an isolated Mediterranean cove, but it is difficult to beat for accessibility.

More than a beach

Finikoudes is also an excellent starting point for exploring central Larnaca. The Church of Saint Lazarus, the old streets and Larnaca Castle are within comfortable walking distance. Boats offering short cruises and excursions also operate from the waterfront area, adding another option for a day by the sea.

The atmosphere changes as the day progresses. Mornings can be pleasantly quiet, afternoons bring beach life, and evenings attract locals and visitors for dinner, coffee and walks along the illuminated promenade. If you only have a short time in Larnaca, Finikoudes gives you a useful introduction to the city: Mediterranean sea, Cypriot food and historic sights are all concentrated within a compact, walkable area.
